Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linkevičius bids farewell to the outgoing German Ambassador
On 21 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the outgoing Ambassador of Germany to Lithuania Jutta Schmitz. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister thanked the Ambassador for her significant contribution to furthering and strengthening ties between Lithuania and Germany.
“Our partnership with Germany is very important for Lithuania, so we will increase efforts to intensify our bilateral political dialogue, to expand economic relations and to cooperate with Germany. Germany is Lithuania’s second biggest trading partner, the third largest investor, and the first in terms of incoming tourism. We are grateful to Germany for its solidarity and contribution to strengthening security in our country and in the region, also for leading the NATO battlegroup in Lithuania, and for its active participation in NATO’s Air Policing mission in the Baltic states,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linkevičius.
The meeting also discussed items on international agenda and important issues related to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Germany.
Jutta Schmitz, who is a long-serving diplomat, has served as the Ambassador to Lithuania since 8 September 2014.
