Lithuania-South Korea political consultations focus on cooperation in political, economic, and transport fields

On 5 September in Seoul, the fourth Lithuania-South Korea political consultations focused on the development of bilateral relations, cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, transport, education, science and culture, and joint activities in multilateral forums.

The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas represented Lithuania, while the South Korean First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-Nam represented South Korea.

“There is a lot of untapped potential for the development of cooperation. The floating LNG storage and regasification unit ‘Independence’, which was built at Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipyard in South Korea, has furnished us with a good example of this,” said Germanas.

The Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister also noted that it was important to expand economic ties, so it would be purposeful to organise business missions to Lithuania and South Korea in 2017. He also conveyed an invitation of Lithuania’s Foreign Minister to South Korea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs to visit Lithuania.

“This year, we commemorate the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The volume of trade between the two countries has increased by about 30%. We hope to maintain this growth also in the future,” said the South Korean First Vice Foreign Minister in the meeting. He also thanked for Lithuania’s position on the issue of North Korea.

The next bilateral political consultations will take place in Lithuania in 2017.
